In-house IP Council
Location: Berlin
Full time (40h/week)
Vision being the dominant human sense, eye tracking constitutes a powerful approach for understanding the human mind! At Pupil Labs, our mission is to provide cutting-edge eye-tracking solutions, which are more robust, accurate, accessible, and user-friendly than ever before. Already today, our products empower thousands of users in academia and industry, clinical surgeons, elite athletes, astronauts on the International Space Station, and many more. Because we are constantly pushing the boundaries of what is technically possible, we need to be just as innovative in how we protect our ideas.
We are looking for an In-house IP Council to join our Berlin team. In this role, you won't just be managing a portfolio from a distance; you will be embedded within our R&D cycles. You will work side-by-side with our scientists and engineers to identify patentable breakthroughs, conduct deep-dive research into the state of the art, and ensure our technical edge is strategically secured.
This is a full-time, on-site position in our Berlin office, with the flexibility of up to two home-office days per week.
Your Role
Identify & Scout: Actively engage with the R&D team to identify patentable innovations in their daily work—from new ML architectures to novel hardware designs.
Prior-Art & Feasibility: Conduct rigorous research to determine if an idea is novel and patentable before we commit resources to it.
Bridge the Gap: Translate complex R&D breakthroughs into clear briefs for external patent lawyers, and guide the patent through the filing and prosecution process.
Monitor the Landscape: Keep a pulse on the global patent landscape to inform our R&D strategy and ensure Freedom-to-Operate.
Internal IP Resource: Be the go-to person for all IP-related questions, helping the company navigate everything from licensing to IP strategy.
Your Profile
Technical Background: You have a degree (M.Sc. or PhD) in Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or a similar field. You can "speak the language" of our researchers.
IP Experience: You have prior experience in the IP field (e.g., as a patent examiner, patent attorney, or in-house IP expert). You understand the mechanics of patent law and what makes an "inventive step."
Proactive Mindset: You don't wait for inventions to be brought to you; you enjoy digging into technical documentation to find the hidden gems.
Communication: You are excellent at distilling complex technical and legal concepts into actionable advice.
Working at Pupil Labs
Interdisciplinary Team: Work in a young, international environment alongside world-class experts in vision and AI.
Flexibility: On-site culture in Berlin with flexible hours and up to two home-office days per week.
Perks: 6 weeks of holiday, a beautiful office.
Growth: Actively shape your trajectory at Pupil Labs and get support for attending relevant IP and tech conferences.
